On 16th January, 1916, 20th London of 141 Brigade, 47th Division moved into the front line trenches at Maroc, near Loos in France. The Battalion Diary records that on the following day, 17th January, these new positions, especially those held by D Company, were subjected to some heavy shelling which destroyed parts of the trench line and killed two men, one of them being Alan McClure. |
